Frontline Fatalities

The sound of gunfire rattles away in the night,Soldiers in trenches pumped up for a fight.Attack with forces to kill and maim,Casualties rise as meters are gained.

Over the top its time to go,Bullets flying past high and low.Over the top its time to die,One last look towards the sky.

The sound of gunfire dies away,The wounded moaning in awful pain.Momma momma a voice cries,The dead and wounded gazing at the sky.

The firing stops and magazines are reloaded,Two days of death lying still and bloated.

Went to war thinking it was fun,Just the pleasure of holding a gun.The thought of fun quickly fades away,As the horror of death occurs everyday.

Government Wars

In war torn countries refugees flee,

Fleeing governments who commit atrocities.

Their own government who kill and rape,

The truth sealed in political red tape.

As usual the strong stand over the weak,

The rich looking down on the poors misery.

Political leaders who sit on top,

Pulling the strings of soldiers and cops.

Private wars are being fought,

Government and guerrilla forces fighting the cause.

Government soldiers are puppets on strings,

Politicians and generals annihilate commie things.

Atrocities committed in the cruellest way,

Earthly Death

Terrorist blows up in the name of Allah,

Greenpeace fight to save trees and koalas.

Miners dig into the ground,

Musicians create the perfect sound.

Fire fighters fight fire,

Electricians play with live wires.

Politicians sit around and bullshit all day,

Whingers and bludgers get a dole rise pay.

Bwgcolman Future Inc & Combat Wombat

Its Paradise

Palm Island based Community Development organisation Bwgcolman Future Inc, in partnership with Melbourne Hip Hop artists Combat Wombat, and The Sonic Boom Circus Collective, released the new Palm Island hip hop track, Its Paradise this week in time to support Queensland Domestic and Family Violence Prevention month.

The track confronts issues of domestic violence and suicide that are deeply affecting people here on Palm Island. Based on first hand experience it features true stories over phat beats, telling it how it is and keeping it real on Palm Island.

The track, Its Paradise, by Morge and the One Man Army, was recorded as part of the April holidays Demand Reduction Program run by Bwgcolman Future Inc on Palm Island. Stay safe, stand strong and look after each other, Stop domestic violence Im gonna shout it out now.

These are voices that need to be listened to, coming direct from the source - this is not a request for an army intervention this is an effort to be heard, by indigenous people 4 indigenous people. As quoted from the lyrics, its all showing in our childrens eyes, Aboriginal Australia is well aware of the problems communities like Palm are facing but we are still waiting to be asked what we want to do about these issues.

The clip features the beauty of Palm and the sharp contrast between that and the violence some face every day. Staring aspiring Palm Island actress Lizzy G and a mob of locals doing their thing, the film clip is NOW AVAILABLE on You Tube at:

The release of this deadly clip highlights the success and need for ongoing Demand Reduction Funding that was intended to continue the youth programs on Palm Island but is now on hold. The funding allows Bwgcolman Future to run programs here on Palm that gives people the power to speak out and heal some of the damage done through music, dance, art, theatre and circus workshops.

Death On A Battlefield

Artillery races across the sky,

Soldiers in trenches prepare to die.

Die for country King and Queen,

War is a business thats dirty and mean.

Artillery explodes on enemy positions,

Smoke and dust blur soldiers visions.

Young men straight from military school,

Pushed onto battlefields where life was cruel.

Life in trenches was to live or die,

To fight another battle and survive.

Smoke and dust hangs between lines,

Enemy prepared to stand and fight.

Artillery drops between enemy lines,

Blowing to bits their bodies and minds.

The smoke and dust slowly clears,

Waiting for the whistle the soldiers will hear.

Over the top and time to run,

Colonial Terror

They came riding in on their wild eyed beasts,

As the tribe sat down to have their feast.

Warriors caught by the speed of the attack,

Woman and children shot in the back.

White man came with horses and guns,

Exterminating tribes within his runs.

Killing them on their sacred grounds,

Bodies cut to pieces by bullet rounds.

The elderly and young cut down with swords,

In the name of the King to the glory of God.

Massacre and massacre until they are all gone,

No more corroborees and sacred songs.

Warriors fight back with boomerangs and spears,

White man fires from horses that rears.

Black fellow waiting deep in the scrub,

Waiting to spill white fellows blood.

Ancient people fighting for their ancient land,

Tribe after tribe making a last stand.

Europeans ways made better guns,

To slaughter tribes on their sacred runs.

Palms Up - Concert Day

Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter will be headlining the concert which has been organised by the Speakout Crew and Bwgcolman Future Inc on Saturday night at the PCYC.

Others tipped to perform include Dreamkeepers, Mothers Dust, Mick Thaiday, Noel and Noel and the BCSteacher band. Our kids will also perform their original hip hop songs that have been written over the last year with assistance by the Speakout Crew. If you are interested in a preview, check out the groups MySpace site for their work.

The Weekend Football Game.

On the weekend there was a football game down at the Farm on the football field. There were 2 team, Skipjacks and Brothers. The teams both played very good, and were very focused with the game.

The game was exciting for all the audiences, when Vaughn Charles had broken his leg. They didnt stop the time when he was lying on the ground, so Brothers didnt get enough time to come back in the final round. The ambulance came and took Vaughn to the hospital, and then they flew him in to Townsville on the Helicopter. Skipjacks had defeated Brothers with the score of 28 16.

On the weekend some of the boys went into Townsville to play footy against some of the other schools. On Saturday the Brothers and the Skipjacks played football. It was interesting. They had a scratch match last weekend. On Saturday they will be playing for $1000 dollars. Some of the players from both sides were making us laugh because they were just getting hurt.

Apparantly Noel Cannon has a second song being played on the radio on the mainland.

'Palm Island is my Home' got a fair amount of airplay on the mainland and reached down as far as Melbourne! 'Jesus is My Saviour' has just been heard up near the Cairns area. We hope to bring you these on our playlist soon.

Photography Workshop

During the holidays, a motley crew of ex-palmy teachers (Peta, Helena, Ado just couldnt stay away heh heh) and others visited our far flung shores to take our kids through the ins and outs of digital photography.

They spent a week with the kids and then held a photographic exhibition of the kids work.

The event was a huge success with a great community turnout on Saturday night to view our budding young artists product. I believe that quite a few prints were ordered as well as a number of cloth prints. well done boys and girls, you can do anything

Remember that these sorts of digital things, photography, video, audio etc are just as valid a career path as digging ditches....and a lot more fun

Thanks to the team and also thanks to the Bwgcolman Future Foundation for bringing them up. oh, by the way, they also gave the island a great A3 wide printer that can print on cloth, so hopefully we'll have some items to be offered to the world at large soon.

Primary Rugby League Trip

From the 17^th-19^th of August some kids represented Palm Island in the Toyota Cowboys NASCA Rugby League Challenge in Townsville. The players were Jayranni Ryan, Chad Friday, Thomas Morgan, Albert Gorringe, Tahlianne Fraser, William Charles, William Clumpoint, Stanley Fraser, Kenny Biara, Neil Biara, Maurice Biara, Alison Mckean, Gudgan Johnson, Ethan Morgan, Jypsy Walsh and Vernon Geia. We all played together as the Bwgcolman Warriors.

As soon as we got off the plane in Townsville we got onto a big bus and went to Shalom College. First up we had lunch and then we went over to Dairy Farmers Stadium to have a tour of their gym. A couple of the players talked to us and told us their back grounds like were they come from and what they did to achieve what they are doing now. Carl Webb said I make sure I eat a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday, this helps me play my footy. Matty Bowen said I choose to live a healthy life by saying no to drugs, cigarettes and alcohol so I could follow my dream of playing in the NRL State of Origin. Brenton Bowen said throughout playing Rugby League I have made lots of great friends and learnt the skills that help me in life. Obe said just work hard to achieve your goals and dont break the law.

On the Saturday we played our first game against Hopevale at 9am. Jayranni Ryan made the first try and she thanked William Clumpoint for setting her up. William Charles then got the first conversion 3 metres out. We were then lucky to get the second try by Kenny Baira, he made the most lovely line break as he smashed through 3 boys and 2 girls putting us at 10. We played a great first game but lost 12-14.

Our next game was at 10.00 am, we played a team from Cape York it was really close but again unfortunately lost 16-18. Our next game was at 11.00 it was a tremendous game against the big boys from Charters Towers. Our first try was made by William Charles as he flew past the opposition running as fast as he could down the sideline. We missed our conversion but most of all we defended well throughout the game, which was great. Jayranni Ryan made another great tackle with thanks to Albert Gorringe who ankle tapped him before he got smashed. We didnt walk away unknown we walked away from the game proud and hopeful for our next game against Shalom Primary School.

We sat down and trained until our next game. When our next game came up we ran on the field proud and strong. First up Jayranni Ryan and Jypsy Walsh smashed big Jona Geia and hurt him. All of the boys were very supportive for the girls in the last game so thankyou. We only made five tries in this game William Charles (2), Jypsy Walsh (1), Thomas Morgan (2) and thank you to Ethan Morgan and Thomas Morgan for getting all our conversions. That led us to 28-28. Then Shalom made another try that led them 32-28 so sadly we lost, but it happened in a very good way so thank you guys and girls. Congratulations also to Neil Biara for being man of the match and for being great throughout the game.

We would like to say thank you to Obe Geia for being a great helper, Bully Mckean and Vaughny Charles for being great cheer boys. All the people who trained us: Boy Morgan, Mr Dave, Mr Daves Brother, Harry Rueben, Mr Brent, Miss Gemma, Miss Jen our PE teacher and thanks to the Cowboys for sponsoring us. Most of all thanks to the parents for letting it happen for their kids. Thank you.

North East Bay - This picture is of North East Bay. The photo is taken from the top of Bamboo Creek. North East Bay is on the north Side of Palm Island, and is great to go camping. North East Bay is one of the great swimming spots as there is around 2 3 swimming pools.

Indoor Soccer Finals

Yeeha! Strykers win the Indoor soccer! go strykers go strykers!

with both the semi and the final played on the same night, there was no such thing as a rest!.. after playing a gruelling game against the local cops in the semi final, the Strykers went on to demolish the likely lads in the final. although, the lads almost pulled off a comeback in the last five minutes of the match.
